Our ever-growing exclusive vegetable seeds catalogue from Bejo Zaden includes a variety of tried and tested seeds for adaptability and success in the Ugandan environment. Selected for their genetic superiority and desirable traits like early maturing, strong disease resistance, high yielding and drought tolerance, our cultivars not only ensure that a grower gets a bountiful profitable harvest, but also enable them to become resilience to climate change and its undesirable effects.
Pest and Disease Biological Control Solutions.
Sourced from the rich and diverse Ugandan forests by a team of plant pathology experts from Milkweed Biologicals Ltd, our biological products (beneficial fungi, bacteria and insects) not only safeguard the crops from pests and diseases, but also causes no harm to the environment nor threat human health in any way.
Climate Resilience Technologies
For profitable production, irrigation plays an important role since plants require adequate amounts water to thrive. Designed by our in-house experienced irrigation engineer, our irrigation solutions are tailored to meet the growers’ water needs empowering them to become resilient to climate change aspects and effects like drought.
Customized Storage Facilities
Our storage facilities are designed and customized to suit the needs of an individual grower/group of growers/organization. Made with locally available materials and resources these facilities not only enable a grower curb the undesired losses from unsuitable storage without comprising quality, but also have the required muscle to overcome market dynamics and price fluctuation related losses.
Our Clients and Knowledge Transfer
With a reach of over 100,000 growers through a network of over 1000 agro input dealers, stockists, agents and plant raisers situated within the remote rural areas of Uganda.
Our dedicated field team of experienced agronomists strive to provide the best extension services to all growers till the grass root through trainings and field visits.
Since inception Dutch Seed Centre has participated in several development projects with different partners to fulfil its pledge to the grassroot grower.
These include. Horticultural Market Acceleration Program (HortiMAP) implemented by Techno Serve and funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom.
The project enabled us to train 2500 Small holder Farmers in the Greater Mbale Region focusing on Kween, Kapchorwa and Mbale districts on the sustainable profitable organic production of cabbages, carrots and onions. With emphasis on the use of superior seeds and organic input (biologicals and bio fertilizer) to prove the significance of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), Proper Soil Fertility Management and Good Agronomic Practices (GAP) in profitable vegetable production.
Through this project 128 new agro-input dealers and field agents were still enrolled and trained in IPM and GAP, 30 demo sites were established and used as centres of learning to the vegetable growers in the target districts.
Integrated Seeds Sector Development Plus (ISSD+) implemented by ISSD and funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands, the project focused on the exhibition of superior vegetable varieties and provision of in-depth training in Nursery Established and Management, Crop nutrition, protection and husbandry in the Rwenzori and South Western regions of Uganda.
Through this project Dutch Seed Centre reached out to more than 4000 growers with over 3000 growers were trained in the focus areas.
The Inclusive Diary Enterprise (TIDE) implemented by SNV and funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. TIDE is a project focused on improving nutrition in schools located in Western Uganda.
Dutch Seed Centre is still working in close collaboration with IFDCM, NARO and MAAIF on the registration and adaption of TPS.
Resilient Efficient Agribusiness Chains in Uganda (REACH) implemented by IFDC and funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The project aimed at improving farmers’ market engagement, strengthening household resilience and improving availability of Agricultural extension service to over 40,000 farmers in the rice and potato value chains.
The project supported the introduction and registration of True Potato Seeds (TPS) cultivars and facilitated the setup of testing and training demo site in all regions of Uganda. Dutch Seeds Centre worked in close collaboration with NARO in the implementation of the project.
In additional to working with development partners in ensuring promotional of sustainable horticultural production. Dutch Seed Centre is working with a number of innovative growers that are harnessing the use of advanced technologies in their production. These include but not limited to Imani Harvest (Cherry tomatoes), Finca Verde (Hydroponics Vegetable Production), Hydro tech growth (Hydroponics Vegetable Production) among others.
